Artwork Requirements

Providing your artwork in the correct format is crucial to successful, sharp looking results. Below are guidelines for artwork preparation and submission when preparing your own files.

If we are preparing artwork for you, you don’t have to worry about any of this.

Unless Utah Imprint is preparing your artwork, you are responsible to submit press ready digital artwork meeting the requirements outlined below. Design services are available for layout, design, cleanup, image scanning, etc. If none of this information makes sense - don’t worry. Just give us what you have and we’ll tell you if we can use it - or we can get it to where it needs to be. (If your print job has special requirements, we will advise.) 

For all full color printing, we ask that you use our templates to correctly format your files. Templates are free and are available in several formats upon request. Otherwise, the following requirements apply. (Some requirements will not apply to every item and some items may have special requirements. Please ask us for the specific requirements and templates of your particular project.)

    • Only Adobe PDF, Adobe Illustrator and EPS files are acceptable.
    • We cannot print your job from files prepared in Microsoft Paint, Word, Publisher, Etc.
    • Document color should be set to CMYK or Grayscale (SWOP).
    • We suggest “US Prepress Defaults” in Adobe application color settings.
    • Trim marks or exact page size to include any bleeds with bounding boxes.
    • 1/8” bleeds if required.
    • Minimum 1/8” margins from text to trim.
    • 350 dpi CMYK or grayscale images. (TIFF format recommended)
    • 1200 dpi 1-bit line art.
    • Transparencies MUST be flattened.
    • Photoshop TIFF files need to be flattened.
    • Rich black supported in percentages of 40,40,20,100 CMYK
    • Straight black recommended for text smaller than 24 pt.
    • All text must be converted to outlines / paths.
    • Photoshop EPS files should include vector data.
